Id-ul
Fitr
Eid al-Fitr is a Muslim holiday that marks the
end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word
meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break fast"; and so the
holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It is celebrated after
the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan, on the first day of Shawwal. Eid
ul-Fitr lasts for three days of celebration. The festivities are initiated
either by cannon shots in the air or by fireworks. Though the celebration of
this party is no religious obligation, however, it is a commendable matter to
this holiday properly. In some areas, for example in Turkey, the holiday is
also called “Sugar Feast” because children receive small presents and sweets
during these days. During this holiday the whole Islamic world exchanges
congratulations and greeting messages and it is an occasion mutual visits and
to celebrate.
